the present is not a place that we are used to feeling trapped in, spontaneity always there with us whenever we are in need. but in today’s time, there seems to be no better word for our recent experiences than trapped.
with this piece, i want to give you a new reality. somewhere to lay down, for a little while, a place of easy escapism, like a dream you can just nearly touch, somewhere to breathe in, somewhere to go, but somewhere that's here, too. grounded in a reality you know, one that you are familiar with, one that you may be wanting to go back to. i want this piece to feel like you're turning your ear to the ground, and hearing the whole world sing to you. that this is a piece of both future and past, momentary but constant, just like the present.
i want this to be a piece of a reminder, that better days are coming, that there is still hope here to be found, even in times like this. to know that the world is still capable of normalcy. that we do so much and we're trying so hard to still be ourselves, in all of this, and that the world loves us all a little more for it. that all these empty spaces are just spaces waiting to be filled, again. that there is still room for dreaming, and that we can, that we're able to, and that if we do –– we won't wake up feeling like we're falling.
in essence, this is a response to the anxiety of living through a pandemic. i wanted to create something that reminds you and gives you space to breathe in, that helps your hands to stop shaking, for a little while, to calm your heartbeat down. i want you to be able to listen to this and hear the wind whipping through every bone of you and i want you to remember what it was like to exist in a way that was peaceful and alive and cleansing. i wanted to make this a plane of reality, and so i created this soundscape, adding reverb among other audio effects to make the audio have a three-dimensional atmosphere, so you, as the listener, could close your eyes, and just be, for as little or as long as you want, the piece running just under ten minutes.
for experiencing the piece, your instructions are simple: get as comfortable as you want to be. that means to make your favorite drink, grab your softest blanket, find the calmest spot in your home to bunker down for about ten minutes at most. this could mean that you put your most comfortable pajamas on, or your fuzziest socks, or grabbing your favorite mug. whatever you choose to do, just make it so that you are cultivating a space of comfort and ease. then, when you're ready to begin, grab a pair of headphones, and press play on the video. you can keep your eyes open or closed, you can lie down, sit, stand, whatever you feel is right for you. the experience of how you relax is your own, and therefore, how you want to exist in the space this audio gives you is of your own making as well.
