white noise is an immersive experience on the concept of the past, specifically moments that categorize themselves as moments lost to the "blurriness of being alive". Moments like these are every day – images and scenes we see so much that we become blind to them, and in a way, we do as well to their beauty. In this project I wanted to not only highlight those moments and bring them to the forefront, but I also wanted to project them as unavoidable scenes, to give these moments breathing room to exist, as well as thrive in.
I knew from the beginning of the conceptual stages that I wanted to create a space specifically to home these moments, somewhere where there wouldn't be distractions, where instead viewers could take any route they like through them, to take ownership of these moments as if they were their own, as they have been in the past.
From there, it was going into my own time and finding moments to capture, being aware of the beauty and light of my routine moments of life around me, but also keeping in mind similarity, common experience of what others would experience as well, to relate and morph into a kind of communal nostalgia for the everyday. there, the time and moments that are both past and current and future, but where recollection of them are the only way to truly speak about the experiences we hold of them, to have the space to live in them for a little longer, and to experience them as if for the first time and pay attention, maybe just a little bit more, for a little bit longer, again and again and again if desired, and so this past concept was brought to life.
